Dr Kurian Mylankal

Dr Kurian Mylankal

Dr Kurian Mylankal is a vascular and endovascular surgeon who specialises in complex open and minimally invasive endovascular surgical interventions. He practices as a specialist vascular surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and also consults at the Lyell McEwin Hospital and Wallaroo Hospital.

He is a dual trained British and Australian vascular and general surgeon. He trained in United Kingdom working at large tertiary referral centres and was subsequently selected for the prestigious National Endovascular Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also worked as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Southampton University Hospital in England before emigrating to Australia. He has completed multiple vascular and endovascular fellowships in both United Kingdom and Australia and has extensive medical experience of over 20 years. With his vast experience in open and endovascular minimally invasive techniques, he strongly believes that he is able to give impartial and unbiased advice to his patients. He aims to provide the best quality of care for his patients and gives careful consideration between open surgical techniques and endovascular treatment when planning the treatment options

He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. He has a post graduate certificate in Medical Ultrasound from the University of Leeds, UK and also an MD research degree from UK.

He enjoys academic work and has authored multiple publications and book chapters. He is a reviewer for the Australasian Journal of Surgery and was previously a reviewer for the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He is also actively involved in training and supervision of trainee surgeons, junior doctors and medical students.

In his spare time, Kurian enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.

Research & Academic Interests

MD project

Dr Kurian Mylankal was appointed as a Research Fellow in Vascular Surgery under the supervision of Professor PT McCollum to investigate “The effect of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors on oxidative and hypoxic stress in the vascular Endothelium”. The project was designed out of a personal interest in the pleotropic effects of statin and involved learning new laboratory based skills of cell culture and propagation, apoptosis (TUNEL) assay, spectrophotometric proliferation assay, cellular RNA isolation and RT-PCR. He was awarded an MD for this work from the University of Hull.
